Kay isn't the only one who could use a friend like Gerda to rescue him from the cold clutches of "The Snow Queen." We here in New England need help. At least we don't have to contend with the Devil and his bumbling assistants in this production by Theater in the Open. The cast ranges in age from 7 to adult in Theresa Linnihan's adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen classic. Bonnie Jean Wilbur directs the ensemble at Newburyport's Firehouse Center for the Arts (an interesting venue for snow royalty). 7:30 p.m. (repeats Sat 3 and 7:30 p.m., Sun 3 p.m.) $15, $12 students and seniors. The Firehouse Center for the Arts, Market Square, Newburyport. 978-462-7336. theaterintheopen.org
