THE NIGHT IS YOUNG

Attracting a following

If local promoter Dan Shea's name is behind an upcoming show, you can trust that it will be all ages (or 18-plus) with a strong DIY bent. The 27-year-old Weymouth native has put on so many concerts and art events in the past nine years that he might just be one of the busiest men in Boston. As he puts it: "I put out records and put on shows as Bodies of Water Arts and Crafts [bowaac.com]. I play in a band called Needy Visions. I'm waiting to hear about getting into grad school for landscape architecture. I plan to open up an all-ages show/art space in Boston, hopefully sooner than later."

As of late, Shea has joined forces with Tufts' Oxfam Cafe for a bimonthly all-ages dance party called Dripping With Enthusiasm. The April date hasn't been set, but there are plenty of other musical events rocking the cafe in the meantime.

Shea is particularly excited about tomorrow's show, featuring crazed San Francisco rockers Wildildlife: "Since they were last here, they put out an unbelievable record; they're my good friends, and an unbelievable live band." The show features the debut of Shea's rock band, Needy Visions, and Summerduck, featuring Farhad Ebrahimi, formerly of the late, great Night Rally.

Shea's dedication to accessible shows has a purpose: "I believe that the best way to grow the local arts and music scenes is to start by including, involving, and giving the youth of the area - college kids and high-schoolers alike - a reason to stay in Boston."
