All about Bette

Globe Staff / April 2, 2008

The city of Lowell just had a big celebration of favorite son Jack Kerouac, and now it's focused on another local star, Bette Davis. Davis, who was born in Lowell on April 5, 1908 (she would have been the big 1-0-0 this year), will be remembered in many ways today - a kickoff event of sorts for the Lowell Film Festival on Friday and Saturday. There's a walking tour of Lowell (5:30-6:30 p.m.) with a talk about how the city influenced her career, a panel discussion (6:30 to 7:30 p.m.) about Davis's movies and life, and a Hollywood Golden Age Cocktail Party (7:30 to 9 p.m.) that includes a Davis look-alike contest. Do you have Bette Davis eyes? If so, you might walk away with a trophy. Walk and discussion are free. Park Visitor Center, 246 Market St., Lowell. Party is $10, Revolving Museum, 22 Shattuck St., Lowell. To RSVP, e-mail fdonna@lowellma.gov. 978-275-1831. destinationworld.org
