In the 1990 film "The Sheltering Sky" (above), Debra Winger and John Malkovich play a New York couple trying to save their marriage. Tonight, Winger is in Brookline to pay tribute to the man who produced that film, Jeremy Thomas. Thomas, who won an Academy Award for "The Last Emperor," is the recipient of this year's Coolidge Award. Other notables in attendance include actor Tim Roth and directors Julien Temple and Nicolas Roeg. Film clips will be shown and Malian musician Balla Tounkara will perform. Tomorrow, Thomas will participate in a discussion at 2 p.m. ($9.75) and talks about the filmmaking process at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20. 8 p.m. $35. Coolidge Corner Theatre , 290 Harvard St., Brookline. 617-734-2501. coolidge.org
