Tonight
Kenneth Starr goes "King Lear" Apparently, the drama of the did-Clinton-or-didn't-he impeachment proceedings wasn't enough for former Whitewater independent counsel Kenneth W. Starr. Following an abridged staged reading of Shakespeare's "King Lear" (readers include former governor Paul Cellucci among other legal brainiacs), Starr will host a discussion and debate on how the political and legal issues in the play pop up on state, national, and international levels (delusions of omnipotence in the executive branch, maybe?). The panel marks the Boston Lawyers chapter of the Federalist Society's eighth-annual Shakespeare and the Law event. 5 p.m. Free (tickets are required). RSVP to Dottie Moore at dmoore @mccarter.com or 617-449-6617. Emerson College, Cutler Majestic Theatre, 219 Tremont St., Boston. maj.org
Memorial Day
Family-friendly Memorial Day Concert Daniel Goodman will perform Francis Poulenc's "The History of Babar" (as in, Babar the Elephant), a piece that features musical renditions of elephants scampering through the forest, driving cars, and dancing at weddings. The piece will be narrated by actor and musician Jack McCreless. The afternoon will also include selections from Chopin and a "participatory" piano concert - think improv - where the audience comes up with musical themes and Goodman obliges. Proceeds benefit organizations providing food assistance for the hungry. 1:30 p.m. $15 suggested donation, $5 students. MIT, Hayden Memorial Library, Killian Recital Hall, 160 Memorial Drive, Cambridge. 781-674-2440. DLGoodman.com
