Throwing out the first pitch

June 7, 2008

Lynn's Fraser Field has seen its share of pro and independent baseball teams come and go since it was built in 1940. The North Shore Spirit called it quits last season after five years at the park, and the North Shore Navigators (formerly the Holyoke Giants) of the amateur New England Collegiate Baseball League open their inaugural season there tonight, taking on the Vermont Mountaineers, the defending league champs. Amateur baseball fans can forsake the Cape Cod league tonight for a recently renovated field, some up-and-coming talent, and opening day fireworks. 7 p.m. $8 seats, $5 bleachers. Fraser Field, 365 Western Ave., Lynn. 339-440-8201. nsnavs.com [N.Z. III]
