Get Out Chat with Meredith Goldstein
Sidekick's Meredith Goldstein is keen on DJs who spin pop music and restaurants that serve real food after 11 p.m. She answered your burning questions about what to do this weekend.
Meredith_Goldstein: Hi everybody, it's Meredith with the Boston Globe. Need plans for the weekend?
yep__Guest_: what should i do?
Meredith_Goldstein: WEll yep, if I were you, I'd stop by the City of Cambridge Dance Party tomorrow night. It's like a big middle school dance in front of City Hall in Central Square.
The_Lover__Guest_: You'tre always talking about "small bites" you should meet me at Grille 23, where the bites are much larger and much more delectable.
Meredith_Goldstein: Wow. Thanks for the invite. I was at the Middle Eastern restaurant in the Back Bay earlier this week -- Cafe Jaffa? Good place. Big bites. Cheap.
Meredith_Goldstein: Anyone going to the free show at the Paradise tonight? The Hold Steady?
tt__Guest_: The Cambridge dance sounds like a blast! Good call! Then there's the Mystic River Music Fest the next day, complete with a beer garden. In Medford---the king of 'no fun' towns---Who Knew!!!? Free is my new middle name. thanks for the tip!
Meredith_Goldstein: It's all true. Free music in Medford. Free music in Waltham, too. The Waltham Festival of Rock will feature a great lineup of Waltham rock bands on the town's common. Members of the band Waltham (who are from Waltham) may even show up.
Meredith_Goldstein: So, what are people doing for the 4th?
jr__Guest_: Morning Meredith! Any suggestions on places to go tonight for single 30 and 40 yr old gals pls? Thanks!
Meredith_Goldstein: Well, I always mention Jurys in Back Bay for a crowd that's 30-plus friendly. Actually, hotel bars are usually great for avoiding 20somethings. Perhaps one of the spots in the new Liberty Hotel? I was there last night and event the bar on the second floor of the hotel -- outside of Clink -- was a good scene. And if you're up there, I always like a drink at the Sevens.
Soxfan16__Guest_: Since the 4th is on a friday, I am leaving the city and going to Maine.
Meredith_Goldstein: Good call.
Soxfan16__Guest_: There has been a lot of focus of 'burb restuarants in the Globe, which city restuarants should we be paying attention to?
Meredith_Goldstein: Well, there was a big opening last night for BOKX 109 in Newton -- some new fancy steak house. No word yet on how it is. It's a great time of year to hit the burbs by the water. I actually have plans to hit up a new pizza place in Newburyport.

Meredith_Goldstein: Coriander Bistro in Sharon has some good cooking events I've always wanted to check out. corianderbistro.com
duchess__Guest_: How about your vote for Cape Cod night life? Falmouth/Mashpee area?
Meredith_Goldstein: You know, I know of Firefly, but those are not my neighborhoods down there. Does anyone have any other Falmouth suggestions for nightlife? I'm a P-Town girl when I go.
Meredith_Goldstein: fireflywoodfiregrill.com
Meredith_Goldstein: And, in case you were wondering, Lobsta Land won the New Fish Festival contest in Gloucester last night.
Meredith_Goldstein: Seared Scallops with Madras Curry Sauce and Jasmine Rice -- the winning dish.
ww__Guest_: hit up the Seaport area Soxfan16 - good restaurants there
Meredith_Goldstein: That's for our Maine chatter, I think. Thanks, ww.
Meredith_Goldstein: Well, everybody, unless you have other questions, I'm going to grab a bite to eat. If you want to see the official weekend picks, they're at www.boston.com/thingstodo/gallery/weekend_picks
tt__Guest_: Oregano's is good--you'll like it.
Meredith_Goldstein: Thanks for the tip, TT.
Meredith_Goldstein: If anyone has any other questions (or pizza tips) I'm at mgoldstein@globe.com. See you next week.
