Sometimes we confuse perennials with weeds and yank them before they flower, but the folks tending the eight gardens on the Sandwich Garden Tour know better. The tour includes a trip to the Wildflower Garden at the Green Briar Nature Center (where you pick up your tickets), which has more than 300 plants, a shaded hillside, wetlands, and an open meadow. In Sandwich Village, the Secret Garden is hidden behind a privet hedge and is chock full of perennials, annuals, shrubs, and a grape arbor. In the Woodland and Whimsey garden (below), check out the terraced sun and shade areas. 11 a.m-3 p.m. (rain date Friday). $15 (includes cookies and a cold drink). Green Briar Nature Center, 6 Discovery Hill Road, off Route 6A, East Sandwich. 508-888-6870. thornton burgess.org
