Get Out Chat with Meredith Goldstein
Sidekick's Meredith Goldstein is keen on DJs who spin pop music and restaurants that serve real food after 11 p.m. She answered your burning questions about what to do this weekend.
Meredith_Goldstein: Hi everybody, it's Meredith Goldstein at the Boston Globe. Need weekend plans? Let's talk about what to do and where to go.
Soxman__Guest_: Should i waste the money on Dark Knight?
Meredith_Goldstein: According to Ty, yes you should: http://www.boston.com/movies/display?display=movie&id=9821
sos__Guest_: Meredith, r you there/ we need a dancing place for tonight
Meredith_Goldstein: Looks like Middlesex has "Make It New," which should be good if you like electronic stuff. But the night at the Milky Way is probably worth checking out: http://www.milkywayjp.com/tonight.html?on_date=2008-07-17
harrythegreek__Guest_: What can I do with my visiting neice, 12 and nephews 14 & 15 this weekend?
Meredith_Goldstein: Actually, the ArtBeat event in Somerville is pretty great for kids that age. There will be arts and crafts, food, live bands -- they'll think you're cool.
Meredith_Goldstein: somervilleartscouncil.org/programs/artbeat/
Meredith_Goldstein: Maybe after, you can head over for a big gourmet pizza at Emma's in Kendall Sqaure in Cambridge.
mumbles__Guest_: Are tickets still left for robert Randolph at the Boston Common?
mumbles__Guest_: Oh -- and are there any restaurants worh checking out in eastie?
Meredith_Goldstein: We'll start with question No. 2 first. Yes -- I had the pleasure of dining with our food critic at Angela's in Eastie. We had a great time -- and I left very happy and full of avocados. boston.com/ae/food/restaurants/articles/2008/02/27/holy_mole_angelas_serves_real_mexican/
Meredith_Goldstein: As for question No. 1, you should just be able to show up for that gig. boston.com/ae/music/articles/2008/07/17/robert_randolph_and_the_family_band/
dd__Guest_: Hi Meredith, Where should a few 30 year old single females go on Saturday night (around 9pm) in Boston to have fun and potentially meet some smart, nice, single men in their 30?
Meredith_Goldstein: You know, I think I get this question every week. Single men in your 30s, where do you go? Are you hiding? dd is looking for you.
Meredith_Goldstein: Ok. I'm going to throw out The Field in Cambridge, Beehive in the South End, and Atwood's Tavern in Inman Square. Men? Want to offer some other suggesions?
NightOwl__Guest_: I'm looking to go dancing tomorrow night. Any ideas?
Meredith_Goldstein: How about the Pill? thepillboston.com
NightOwl__Guest_: What's the crowd like there? I have always wondered.
Meredith_Goldstein: I mean, there is a hipster vibe for sure, but it's a very welcoming mix. Even if you're the type who likes to do the Humpty Dance in a Red Sox hat in Faneuil Hall, you should be comfortable. Mostly, the music is great. You'll probably leave with songs in your head for downloading.
Meredith_Goldstein: A Saturday option is Soul-le-lu-jah at ZuZu.
Meredith_Goldstein: No more questions?
dd__Guest_: what are good bars in cambridge?
Meredith_Goldstein: Again, I like the Field. I like Miracle of Science for a burger. I like ZuZu. I like People's Republik, although it's been a year or so.
Meredith_Goldstein: Ok folks, I'm off to lunch. If you want my official weekend picks, they're at www.boston.com/thingstodo/gallery/weekend_picks/
Meredith_Goldstein: If you have any more questions, I'm at mgoldstein@globe.com.
