All that glitters
- |
Glitter, glam, and all things outrageous - that's our design for you and your partner on Saturday, beginning with the dazzling display of art nouveau jewelry at the Museum of Fine Arts' "Imperishable Beauty" exhibit. The artistry of the brooches, pins, dog collar (a kind of necklace), hair combs, and pendants will blow the minds of all bauble-o-philes. Do not, under any circumstance, miss the dragonfly brooches. (If you want to get a head start, go tonight at 6 for the hourlong lecture by exhibition curator Yvonne Markowitz.) Saturday hours: 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. (show is up through Nov. 9.) $17. 465 Huntington Ave., 617-267-9300. www.mfa.org
Gear up for the glitz to come with dinner at the excellent neighborhood restaurant Orleans in Davis Square. Start with the restaurant's signature mussels with lobster meat in a tomato, garlic, and white wine sauce ($12). Go on to the pan-seared salmon ($22) or the pork loin ala saltimbocca ($21), and finish with the warm chocolate bread pudding with a scoop of vanilla ice cream ($6.95). Saturday dinner 4:30-10 p.m. 65 Holland St., Somerville, 617-591-2100. www. orleansrestaurant.com
Then it's on to Stoneham Theatre for the glistening beauty-contest musical "Pageant," featuring drop-dead gorgeous gowns and slinky swimsuits created by a designer who has dressed Miss Americas. The twist? The contestants are all played by men, and the audience will choose the winner of the Miss Glamouresse fabfight. Saturday night is "Out Night," when members of the gay and lesbian community are invited to the show and to a post-performance reception to meet the cast. (All you cheap couples can go on Thursday when it's "pay what you can" night.") 8 p.m. (Show runs through Oct. 5.) $40. 395 Main St., Stoneham, 781-279-2200. www.stonehamtheatre.org
After a big night like this, no doubt you'll both vow to get out more often.![]()
