The glowing Zakim Bridge has some competition this week. To celebrate the inauguration of the Rose Kennedy Greenway, 11 structures around the city will be lit up for five nights - an event modeled after Venice lighting celebrations. More than 35 New England lighting designers participated in IlluminaleBOSTON, which includes the Moakley, Congress Street, Summer Street, and Northern Avenue bridges. The latter, a swing bridge (right), will have glittering reflectors at both ends, and as pedestrians walk over it, they'll activate motion detectors that trigger bouncing pinspots of swirls. Feel free to practice your dance moves on the pressure-activated, illuminated dance floor beneath your feet - it is a swing bridge, after all. Switching-on ceremony is 6:30 p.m., rain or shine (lights on dusk to 11 p.m. daily through Sunday). Free. www.illuminaleboston.com
