MUSIC
Medford: Old and young have musical treats awaiting them at the Tufts University Granoff Music Center, 20 Talbot Ave. The story of Babar, the elephant who leaves the jungle, travels to the big city, and returns to share his experiences with his pachyderm pals, has charmed generations of children and, no doubt, a few adults. On Nov. 1 at 1 p.m., pianist Andrew Rangell performs, narrates, and illustrates the tale. On Nov. 2 at 3 p.m., pianist Gregg Pauley offers something a bit more in keeping with the season for older concert-goers: Scriabin's Black Mass Sonata, Liszt's Mephisto, and Chopin's Funeral March. Both concerts are free of charge. 617-627-3679.
North Andover: Sol y Canto presents "Noche de Muertos: Welcoming Our Ancestors Home" Oct. 30, 7 p.m., at the Rogers Center for the Arts at Merrimack College. The multi-media event combines images of the Mexican "Day of the Dead and Night of the Dead" by photographer Susan Wilson, and original music by Sol y Canto guitarist Brian Amador with vocals by Rosi Amador and string accompaniment by Rebecca Strauss. Tickets are $12-$18. www.merrimack.edu/rogers, 978-837-5355.
