Book Club for the Curious This Museum of Science book club was created for those who are interested in science and technology and its impact on our society. The book club meets on the second Thursday of the month at 6:00 p.m. in the Museum's Lyman Library, Green Wing, Level 3. On January 8, it will discuss Invention by Design: How Engineers Get from Thought to Thing by Henry Petroski.

Free Film Friday The MathWorks and the Museum of Science invite New Englanders to escape from the cold and view a free film on the Museum's IMAX?? dome screen. Get cozy in the Mugar Omni Theater for free giant-screen films all day January 9, 16, and 23. Along with the Museum's newest film Roving Mars, audiences can watch favorites such as Wild Ocean, The Greatest Places, and Adrenaline Rush. Tickets for all Friday shows will be distributed on a first come, first served basis on the day of the film only. For more information, please visit mos.org or call 617/723-2500.
A Night on Mars The Museum of Science and The MathWorks will launch visitors to the red planet with this evening event celebrating Free Film Fridays. A sneak preview of Roving Mars will take audiences to this mysterious new world, surrounding them with spectacular Mars imagery on the Mugar Omni Theater's giant-screen dome. Meet Cornell astronomer Steve Squyres, star of the film and principal investigator on the missions that landed the rovers Spirit and Opportunity. Discover the dramatic events that have happened since the rovers first touched Mars terrain and find out the future of Mars exploration. After the film, visitors can simulate the experience of a NASA mission control scientist and test-drive the Museum's Personal Exploration Rover (PER). Free tickets are available at the box office on January 9 only, first come, first served. Start time is 6:45 p.m. (film starts promptly at 7 p.m.). Free

Light, Sleep, Space A day on Mars last 24 hours and 37 minutes, but humans have not evolved to cope with the extra half hour. Join Laura Barger, PhD, Brigham and Women's Hospital, at the Museum of Science to explore the use of light to help NASA astronauts and space personnel adjust to these unusual "space days." Learn about the genetics behind circadian rhythms and how we might prepare for a trip to outer space. The 1 p.m. presentation is part of the Part of the Forces That Change Usseries. Adult Offering.
