Book parties are happy events for John H. Summers. In 2006, the Cambridge resident and Boston College Visiting Scholar met his wife at a Harvard Square book party for his friend, essayist, and occasional Globe book critic George Scialabba. Last month, the couple became parents to their daughter, Niusha, and Scialabba became a godfather. Tonight, father and godfather will discuss "Every Fury on Earth," Summers's essays about contemporary American intellectual life. Hopefully dad will stay on track and not slip into a couple of verses from "Goodnight Moon." 7 p.m. Free. Brookline Booksmith, 279 Harvard St., Brookline. 617-566-6660. www.brooklinebooksmith.com
