We’re always amazed that the powers that be at MIT allow students to hang works of art by leading modern and contemporary artists in their living spaces. (Maybe MIT kids are too busy studying to wreak havoc.) The annual Student Loan Art Program Exhibition and Lottery features about 500 framed prints and works on paper by Douglas Weathersby, Neeta Madahar, and others. Students enter a lottery and borrow pieces for the school year. Aug. 18 from noon-6 p.m. (through Sept. 20). Free. List Visual Arts Center, 20 Ames St., Cambridge. 617-253-4680. listart.mit.edu
