The John Coltrane Memorial Concert honors the musical, philosophical, and humanitarian legacy of the jazz saxophonist and composer. “The Believer: Concert 1’’ welcomes the John Coltrane Memorial Ensemble and honors Edmund Barry Gaither, executive director of the National Center for Afro-American Artists and Museum. Sunday’s “The Believer: Concert 2’’ features musician and vocalist Stan Strickland, who will pay tribute to Coltrane’s legacy. The free “Ascension’’ exhibit is a collection of jazz and other music-inspired work by artists in Northeastern’s Department of African American Studies.
