The intimate Sancutary Theatre where the José Mateo Ballet Theatre usually leaps and lunges has been transformed for tonight’s “Spirits in the Sanctuary.’’ The ghoulish benefit gala will honor actress, model, author, and New England native Victoria Rowell for her work bringing arts training to foster children. The honorary host, Cambridge Mayor E. Denise Simmons, will preside over an evening of dinner, dancing, a silent auction, and tricks and treats. The costumed characters are members of the company (turned-out feet are a giveaway). 7 p.m.-midnight. $175, $100 under age 30. Reservations are required. Sanctuary Theatre, 400 Harvard St., Cambridge. 617-354-7467. www.ballettheatre.org
