Oklahoma! comes to Marblehead

OKLAHOMA! Marblehead Little Theatre and Tumbleweed Productions present the musical “Oklahoma!,’’ based on the recent Broadway revival, at Marblehead Veterans Middle School today and Friday through next Sunday.

The show, featuring the music of Rodgers and Hammerstein, has a cast of nearly 60 area performers, including more than 30 children.

The backdrop is a touring set from the Broadway revival.

Starring in this production are Alex Grover of Salem as the cowboy, Curly, and Fjaere Harder of Marblehead as the farm girl, Laurey.

The creative team includes director Steve Black; music director Lianne Goodwin; and choreographer Joey Mirabile.

Performances are 2 p.m. today; 7:30 p.m. Friday; 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday; and 7:30 p.m. next Sunday. Tickets are $20, $25, and $30. Call 781-631-9697 or visit www.m-l-t.org.

MUSICAL INTERLUDE: The Reading Symphony Orchestra presents its fall concert today at Reading Memorial High School.

The orchestra, conducted by Roland Vazquez, performs the music of Mendelssohn, Mozart, and Schubert.

Violin soloist Nicole DiBlasi, a senior at Lynnfield High School, performs violin concerto No. 1 by Prokofiev.

The concert begins at 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $15; $10 for students and senior citizens; free for ages 12 and under and available at the door. For reservations, call 978-664-5614.

ALL TOGETHER NOW: The Pentucket Fine & Performing Arts Foundation presents the sixth annual A Cappella Night at 7 p.m. Friday

The show features vocals-only contemporary music performed by UMass’s Doo Wop Shop, Pentucket Regional High School’s Treblemakers; Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School’s Kings of the Beach; St. John’s Prep’s Swingtown; and Amesbury High School’s Melody Club.

The concert is at Pentucket Regional High School in West Newbury. All proceeds benefit arts education and programming. Tickets are $8; $6 for senior citizens, students and children.

AUTHOR’S CORNER: Kate St. Vincent Vogl discusses her book, “Lost & Found: A Memoir of Mothers,’’ at The Book Rack in Newburyport at 4 p.m. Saturday. The book reveals what happened when her birth mother found her through her adoptive mother’s obituary. Vogl has presented her work to the American Adoption Congress. Her fiction has twice received honorable mentions in the Hemingway Short Story Competition. . . . Barbara Berg talks about her book, “Sexism in America: Alive, Well and Ruining Our Future,’’ at Cornerstone Books in Salem at 7 p.m. Thursday. Berg debunks many myths about how far women have come and the belief that ours is a post-feminist society.

IN LOCAL GALLERIES: “Environments Newburyport,’’ an exhibit of paintings by Marjet Lesk, is featured at the Bridge Gallery in Newburyport throughout November. Lesk is a plein air painter who uses oils, watercolors, and acrylics. One of her favorite aims is capturing the charm of Newburyport. . . . The Merrimack Valley Camera Club, based in North Andover, kicks off a series of 10 exhibitions throughout the area with a show at Lawrence Heritage State Park through Nov. 29. An opening reception is 1-3 p.m. today. The exhibit, “A Feast for the Eyes,’’ includes photographs taken by many of the club’s nearly 200 members. . . . “Two Women, Two Views,’’ an exhibit of the work of Katrina Hart and Betul Arin, is at the Gallery at Grosvenor Park in Salem,Saturday through Jan. 7. An opening reception is 3-5 p.m. next Sunday. Hart, a native of Sweden who now lives in Hamilton, interprets New England landscapes in pastel and acrylics. Arin, a native of Turkey who lives in North Andover, creates in oils and mixed media. . . . The art department at UMass-Lowell presents an exhibit of paintings and works on paper by Boston artist Andrew Haines in the University Gallery tomorrow through Dec. 4. Haines explores the evolution of the New England landscape from its agricultural and industrial past to the retail landscape of today. A talk by the artist is at 3 p.m. tomorrow, followed immediately by an opening reception until 5 p.m.
