Melitta One: One Java Pod Coffee Maker

$49.99

800-841-1628

www.1to1coffee.com

Pros: Inexpensive, easy to use, nicely compact, and has two options for strength. Brewer and pods are the most widely available of the three brands, increasing your chances of running out and finding replacement coffee when your cupboard is bare rather than having to order online or by phone.

Cons: The tank has capacity for only 3 consecutive cups before it needs refilling, although it heats the water very quickly for the next round. Selection of coffees and teas is the most limited of the three.

Keurig B100 Single-Cup Brewing System

$249.95

866-901-2739

www.keurig.com

Pros: Friendly design makes this solid machine the easiest of the three to use, and with more than 50 brands of coffee and tea for the K-cups, most every taste can be satisfied.

Cons: The one taste that can't be satisfied is the one that wants coffee stronger than this. With no option for adjusting the strength, you're stuck with ho-hum medium, and that's a big sacrifice for a coffee maker this expensive -- and this large.

Flavia SB100 Brewer

$99

800-882-6629

www.flavia.net

Pros: Decent price and solid feel. Has largest tank capacity -- enough for 12 consecutive cups -- of the three.

Cons: Quite noisy, and annoyingly problematic to use, especially when loading the filter packs. Making consecutive cups required multiple removals and reinsertions of filter packs before the thing would flash green instead of red lights. Even larger than the Keurig.
