Baster can separate the fat

There's probably still time to order this redesigned baster for the Christmas or New Year's roast. The great thing is not that it stands upright on its bulb end, avoiding spills on the counter, although that is nice, or that it is marked along its length with ounces and milliliters, though that, too, can be handy. The truly nifty thing is that by standing on its end like that, this baster, over the course of a few minutes, will allow the separation of fat from real meat juices, letting you get rid of the former to enjoy the richness of the latter. When you're ready to make the gravy, that can be very handy indeed. It's $15, item No. 47031, from the MoMa Design Store, momastore.org or 800-447-6662.
