A study in perseverance

Last spring, I participated in a food and wine seminar for Boston Globe subscribers and one of the dishes we served was "asparagus peanuts." The spears are cut into short lengths (about 1 1/2-inches) and tossed in very hot peanut oil. They're so good you can't stop eating them.

The cooks at Boston University's culinary program used Boyajian's peanut oil to fry the asparagus and the room was scented with the pleasing aroma of toasted nuts. Globe marketing phenom Stephanie Kohn, who organized the event, went on a hunt for the oil. Here's what she emailed this morning:

"I had to let you know I've been searching high and low for the Boyajian Fragrant Peanut Oil ever since you introduced me to it during the Spring Food & Wine event at BU, and I finally found it last night! Whole Foods hasn't been able to keep it on the shelves, Savenor's has been sold out, as well as a gourmet grocer in Provincetown. This stuff is like gold. I spotted one final bottle (worse for the wear, I might add) near the seafood section in Whole Foods last night and pounced. My husband thinks I'm absolutely crazy. The relief and sense of accomplishment I felt when I finally had that elusive little bottle in my hands made me think he's right!"

She and her husband had a good laugh. Her perseverance felt strangely familiar.
