« Mac 'n' cheese with a kick | Main | Happy holidays to fans of Dishing » Thursday, December 21, 2006Baking to the BBC (part 92)Well, that's a slight exaggeration. I haven't made exactly 92 baking entries in the blog. But I've been baking late at night for weeks. The trusty KitchenAid just keeps chugging along. My holiday projects included cheese crackers, tucked into Chinese carryout boxes. I made them according to the recipe the first two times, which involves rolling out a square and scoring it, then baking the square and scoring it again after baking. The next three times I baked the crackers, I scored the square and baked the crackers individually. The individual crackers turned browner at the edges, which I liked. I also baked big oatmeal raisin cookies, from a recipe my Globe magazine coauthor Julie Riven got at a hotel in Florida recently. At Julie's urging, I used real Irish oatmeal. They're very crisp and the best I've had. These will be in the magazine sometime this winter. I wrapped them in cellophane bags.
For gift tags, I use an old calling card with a photograph of my feet in the kitchen. It's a silly thing that I find amusing. I'm wearing Dansko clogs, by the way, which are essential for long bouts at the stove.
