"86" the foie

No foie gras, caged hens, or shackled veal will be allowed at Wolfgang Puck's restaurants in the future, according to the LA Times.

The culinary kingpin, whose empire stretches world-wide including a cafe in the new ICA here, announced a $300-million project with the Humane Society of the United States to fight animal cruelty.

Puck, whose California restaurants have been persistently picketed by animal rights group Farm Sanctuary, says he's not bowing to pressure. Instead, he insisted that more humanely treated animals mean better meat and fish and other ingredients.

Oh, and the campaign just happens to coincide with Puck's efforts to mark the 25th anniversary of his LA restaurant Spago.
