Which will it be? Diet or ice cream?

dietbook.jpg

On a rainy, cold April day, books float across my desk like so many rain clouds. In the recent pile is one called "The Shangri-La Diet" by Seth Roberts, with a theory that involves drinking olive oil as an appetite suppressor. Roberts's website outlines lots of scientific data and has testimonials saying he "was absolutely shocked at the immediate change in my food cravings" and "Food won't rule me again (until my setback tonight)." Hmmm.

Another is "The Perfect Scoop," by David Lebovitz. It's an ice cream book, and an especially appealing one, with recipes like malted-milk ice cream, super-lemon ice cream, raspberry-rose sorbet, and butter pecan (above) over a blondie and topped with lean chocolate sauce.

Now let me see, as I eat my supper salad tonight, what will I dream of: another diet book or ice cream?
