Let's bring it back

fino2.jpg

The Slow Food movement has done a good job of reminding us that taking time to prepare and enjoy meals together adds real value to our everyday lives. Maybe it's time we started a Slow Sip initiative.

To start, I vote we resurrect the hour of aperitif -- that moment at the end of the work day when we decompress with a glass of wine and a little nibble, preferably in the company of a friend. This week, my pal Bernie and I met at Taberna de Haro in Brookline - a place where the hora de aperitivo is alive and well -- to sip glasses of brisk, bone-dry fino sherry and pick at a bowl of savory, herb-infused olives. The weather at our outdoor table wasn't perfect, but the climate for a bit of unwinding was pretty much ideal.
