The postman always rings twice

At least today he did. I'm like a kid with mail, and I've been eagerly awaiting the arrival of my secret decoder ring two things: the first, a shipment of jam made from Blenheim apricots that I ordered (and blogged about here) back in January; the second, a cookbook produced by the San Francisco bakery Tartine, which I became obsessed with on a recent trip. Both arrived today, within an hour of each other.

What to bake first? Croissants to eat with my apricot jam? It's only 90 million degrees in my apartment -- perfect for baking. The question is, will I be able to reproduce Tartine's deliciousness in my own kitchen? That croissant recipe looks like it takes a million hours. There are those cookbooks that become everyday standbys (sometimes where you least expect it), and those that become eye candy, cracked more for inspiration than for use. Tartine's book seems like it could go either way. I'll keep you posted, because if it's good, it's going to be very very good.
