Melons
Nothing says summer more quickly than a huge red-fleshed watermelon studded with black seeds, cut into triangles and set out on the picnic table. But in the world of melons, that familiar scene is just the beginning. Watermelon is now seedless, others are yellow. The familiar honeydew comes in golden and orange varieties. And there are names like Ambrosia and Sharlyn that are just as voluptuous. All are ripe now or later this month, and though you can get most of them year round, this is the season when the taste is lush.
