Pick a peck of pickles
To make asparagus pickles, Rick's Picks' owner Rick Field begins with fresh asparagus, cherry peppers, garlic, and whole peppercorns. Asparagus pickles are not yet in Field's line-up. He offers 10 varieties of vinegary vegetables, including "Windy City Wasabeans," green beans pickled with soy sauce and wasabi; "Smokra," or smoky paprika with okra; and "Phat Beets," rosemary-scented pickled beets.
