St. Alphonzo's Kitchen

Email|Print| Text size +
January 7, 2008

If you've been wandering around A Street in South Boston looking for Potbellies Kitchen, you may have noticed it's no longer there. That's because Potbellies is now St. Alphonzo's Kitchen, named after Frank Zappa's "St. Alphonzo's Pancake Breakfast" (from his album "Apostrophe"). And if there's one thing Boston's restaurant scene has been missing, it's a restaurant named after a Zappa song. Cheap comfort food, from $5 chili con carne to the $8 Dagwood sandwich (turkey, corned beef, salami, ham, bacon, lettuce, tomato, pickles, mayo, and mustard on white bread), fills the menu. If you're an Elvis fan, drop in tomorrow; Alphonzo's is serving a fried peanut butter and banana sandwich ($6) in honor of the King's birthday. St. Alphonzo's Kitchen, 87 A St., South Boston. 617-269-2233.
