Time for some Thursday night spice. Surely you and your sugar pop can make time for each other during the week, right? It is almost Friday, so treat yourself to a night of tapas and Spanish guitar music.
Make plans to meet tomorrow at Tasca, a Spanish tapas restaurant with a Thursday special. Order a range of small dishes and enjoy the different tastes. Try the ensalada Tasca, organic greens, tomato, and olives, with a red-wine vinaigrette ($4.95). Or Los Tres Amigos, a grilled trio of sausages with grilled flatbread, caramelized onions, and Dijon mustard ($6.75). Follow it with Gambas al Ajillo, sizzling shrimp in garlic ($6.95); Atun Salteado, pan-seared yellow-fin tuna over a mixed bean ragout in a saffron Dijon mustard aioli ($6.50); and Setas Ronan, portabellas with shaved manchego, capers, and red onion in sherry vinaigrette ($5.95). You can also order full dinners for $15-$20.
Now about that special: Every Thursday night, Spanish classical guitarist Eric Anthony performs from 7 to 10 (no cover). Anthony began studying guitar at 16 and has studied in California, Madrid, and Paris. In 1980, he completed his degree in guitar performance at the New England Conservatory. So over a cappuccino and crème caramel ($4.50) or chocolate torte ($4.95), gaze meaningfully into each other's eyes while Anthony serenades you. Tasca, 5-11 p.m. 1612 Commonwealth Ave., Brighton. 617-730-8002. tascarestaurant.com.
Ah, but the night is yet young and you have calories to burn. So head off to the Cantab Lounge in Cambridge for the usual Thursday night of classic soul and funk provided by the popular Chicken Slacks Soul Revue. Don't forget your dancing shoes. $5. 9:30 p.m.-1:30 a.m. 738 Massachusetts Ave., Central Square. 617-354-2685. cantab-lounge.com.
And after you get all hot and sweaty, head home for a few more funky moves of your own.![]()
