Seaport sweets, rich and buttery

The Bakery at Seaport Hotel has undergone a makeover and name change - now it's Seaport Cafe. The walk-up counter - think airport snack bar - offers soups, ready-made sandwiches and salads, and a full espresso menu. But the main attraction is an extensive array of sweets, highlighting the work of Seaport's new pastry chef, Joanne Gregory. Her repertoire runs the gamut from the classic muffin-scone-Danish line and a selection of homey cupcakes to more refined confections like a flaky peanut butter and jelly sandwich cookie and chocolate-dipped madeleines. Pastries ($2 to $4) are rich and emphatically buttery, especially the fleur de sel shortcake. With easy access just off the airport-bound Silver Line, a stop at Seaport Cafe is a delicious way to prepare for takeoff. Seaport Cafe, Seaport Hotel, 1 Seaport Lane, Boston, 877-732-7678. - JESSE NATHA KIMLER
