The great escape

At the risk of being unpatriotic - if not downright heretical - we think you and the apple of your eye deserve a break from politics and baseball tomorrow night. Take off on a mini vacation from reality with dinner, a theatrical trip into nostalgia, and a nightcap.
You may not be able to fly off to an exotic clime, but you can indulge in exotic Japanese fare with a homegrown touch at Fugakyu in Brookline. Chef Hiro San has added sweet potato to the menu this fall: Try the Black Widow Maki with fried sweet potato, cucumber, and avocado ($9.50); the Lady Bug Maki, with spicy seafood salad, fried sweet potato topped with cherry tomatoes, and black tobikko ($12.25). Open until 1:30 a.m. daily. 1280 Beacon St., Brookline, 617-738-1268. www.fugakyu.net
Then it's on to the night's entertainment: "Miss Margaret LaRue in 'Milwaukee' " at the Boston Playwrights' Theatre, a look back at a time when Milwaukee was the entertainment capital of the world. At least that's the assertion in this nostalgic play about the fading star of Miss Margaret LaRue, an entertainer who once had the world at her feet. The play is written and directed by Wesley Savick, a recent graduate of the Boston University playwriting program and theater professor at Suffolk University. $25. Thu. 7:30 p.m., Fri.-Sat., 8 p.m., Sun., 2 p.m. (runs tomorrow through Oct. 26), 949 Commonwealth Ave., Boston, 866-811-4111. www.bostonplaywrights.org
Milwaukee always makes us think of a certain product for which it's famous. So enjoy a post-play brewsky at the Boston Beer Garden, a South Boston getaway where - since you probably can't help yourselves - you can check out any playoff news. Open until 1 a.m., 732 East Broadway, South Boston, 617-269-0990. www.bostonbeergarden.com.
At the very least, the night should be a refreshing break from contemplating your amazing shrinking IRA.![]()
