Closing Glance: Media companies' shares end mixed

NEW YORK—Shares of major media companies lacked direction on Friday after news that a consumer sentiment reading has dropped to its lowest level in more than 25 years. A sharp increase in oil prices also fueled investors' worries about inflation.

Here's where shares of some major media companies closed on Friday:

News Corp., down 8 cents to $18.33.

Walt Disney Co., up 42 cents to $32.36.

Time Warner Inc., up 21 cents to $15.26.

New York Times Co., up 30 cents to $20.88.
