NEW YORK—Shares of most major media companies gained slightly Monday morning after MasterCard reported that profit more than doubled in the first quarter.

Investors also weighed two negative reports showing that housing prices dropped at the fastest rate ever in February and that consumer confidence fell further in April.

Here's how shares of some major media companies were performing Monday morning:

New York Times Co., up 10 cents to $20.41.

Walt Disney Co., up 1 cents to $32.44.

Time Warner Inc., up 9 cents to $15.20.

News Corp., up 12 cents to $18.25.
