NEW YORK—Shares of most major media companies fell with the broader market on Monday as a jump in oil prices to a new record of $120 a barrel added to investors' concerns.

The shares had opened lower Monday morning, on investors' disappointment that Microsoft Corp.'s decided to withdraw its $43.7 billion bid for Yahoo Inc.

Where shares of some major media companies closed on Monday:

News Corp., down 8 cents to $19.33.

New York Times, down 9 cents to $19.68.

Walt Disney Co., down 20 cents to $33.29.

Viacom Inc., down $1.04, or 2.6 percent, to $38.44.

Bucking the trend, Time Warner Inc. shares gained 38 cents to $16.15.
