Best of 2003:
1. Lord of the Rings
2. Pieces of April
3. Lost in Translation
4. Bend it Like Beckham
5. Finding Nemo

Maria, Watertown

Best: (3-Way Tie) Lost in Translation, Return of the King, The Last Samurai. All three are filled with great character development, incredible performances, and the sheer beauty and power of Return of the King skyrockets it to my list of the best films ever made.

Not the best but still good enough to be mentioned: Pirates of the Caribbean, Finding Nemo. Neither is destined for the AFI's 100 Best list, but both are quality sources of entertainment.

Worst: Darkness Falls... that's got to be the dumbest movie ever made. It insulted my intelligence and made me glad I was watching somebody else's DVD.

Marc, Lynn

Best:
Spellbound
Lost in Translation

Worst:
Cat in the Hat
Gigli

Amy, Boston

Worst: T3. Perfect example of the Hollywood willingness to shovel any crap at all if they think they can make a buck with it. Not the only movie that proves this beyond a shadow of a doubt (Cat in the Hat, Out of Time, Timeline) but for me the most insufferable.

Best: LOTR, Bad Santa, Lost in Translation, Kill Bill. Loved and respected the first and third, but the second and fourth are the ones that really stayed with me. Billy Bob is one gutsy actor, and there is about 25 minutes of Kill Bill that take you off the planet earth.

Steve, Maynard

The best film of the year, and of the past 5 years, is PUNCH DRUNK LOVE!!!! You must see this film with an open mind and not expect realism! Just sit back and enjoy the ride. One of the best directed films of the year and it will be slighted at all awards shows.

fanny, oxford Mississippi
