Best (and worst) movies of 2003From the bomb that was "Gigli" to the successful dynamo of "The Lord of the Rings," 2003 provided moviegoers with some of the best and worst films in years.Boston.com wants to know: What films topped your best and worst lists for 2003 films?
Page 8 Best movies of 2003: Gigli (This helps confirm that Jennifer Lopez is a no talent actress once and for all ! ) From Justin to Kelly The Cat in the Hat Mona Lisa Smile (a rip off of Dead Poets Society) How to Deal (Enough with pop princesses i.e. Britney Spears, Mandy Moore thinking that they can act and sing. Most of us know that they can do neither well) Freddy vs. Jason Scary Movie 3 Joseph, Hillsboro, NH Best movies of 2003: 2 Fast 2 Furious, Matrix Sequels, and The Core Jack, Needham, MA Best: Mystic River Worst: Dumb and DumbererNick , Burlingame Peter Jackson's tour de force third installment of "The Lord of the Rings -The Return of the King" is brilliance upon brilliance. This series, but especially this particular installment, is the "Star Wars" of 2003. Twenty, no fifty years from now, our children's children will watch these films with same amazement and awe. What other move released this year can say that?Chandra , Mattapan The best films I saw this year: "Mystic River," "Dirty Pretty Things," "Bend It Like Beckham" The most underrated flick: "Down with Love" The worst: "Daredevil," literally one of the most hideous movies I've ever seen. I didn't see "Gigli," but it couldn't have been worse than the "acting," the lousy fight sequences, that ridiculous costume (a leftover from a "Batman" movie?) ...Lisa, Jersey City, NJ (but Boston bred) I found "Lost in Translation" the most affecting and original film of the year. Bill Murray's restrained role as a man on the slippery slope of mid life was dead on. "Head of State" was dumber than, well, "Dumb and Dumberer." (When watching movies such as those I ask myself two questions: "Didn't they know they were making a terrible movie?" and "Why am I here?"Mark, Bennington, VT Best - Kill Bill - Pure Fun ! Worst - Lost in Translation - Was I the only one who was as bored and frustrated as the two main characters ? 90 minutes of waiting, and waiting, and waiting ... Compare The Virgin Suicides to this movie and you will see Coppola has not grown as a director.Michael, Boston There was only one film this year 'The return of King'. All others were just your average Hollywood home movies... But here's my list. The Good:Return of The King (it doesn't have to earn an Oscar, in everyone hearts its the best) Sea Biscuit Mystic River The really really bad: the cat in the hat (I'm glad Dr Seues was not around to see this farce.) gigli (Yes, I was one of the fools that saw it. You'd think Ben would have learned a lesson from pearl habour. ) Karl, Bedford NH I think that it's easy to pick the best of the best this year. All 3 LOTR's are amazing, simply put it’s the greatest 11 hour movie or just movie period, of all time. ROTK will win tons of awards. Kill Bill vol.1 blew me away, both vol.1 and 2 together could be the 2nd greatest movie ever. QT should win best director just barely over Pete Jackson aaaand UMA is the best. I don't spend money on bad movies so I can't comment on the crap that’s out there. I was forced to see The Missing, that was bad. I hope Big Fish is as good as it looks.Rick, NH "Lord of the Rings" deserves every award it could possibly be nominate for, except maybe for acting awards, which should go to Bill Murray and Scarlett Johanssen. If there were no LOTR this year, "Lost in Translation" would be the best. Al , Allston
