Bill Murray's loss may have been the only upsetting/out-of-place thing of the evenining.

Best moment? Peter Jackson mentioning some of his early low-brow stuff like "Bad Taste" and "Meet the Feebles".

Whew, glad it's over with - that was brutal. Boring. Billy Crystal was good, Blake Edwards was great, and Tim Robbins spoke up about something surprisingly non-partisan and meaningful instead of his usual ultra-left-wing crypto-babble. Never thought I would ever agree with him but I was almost touched by what he had to say about dealing with an abusive past. All of the LOTR wins just got old though, big sweeps like that and Titanic in 97 always make it that much tougher to watch (97 in particular because of how blatantly undeserving Titanic was of all the nominations, let alone wins). I'm still pretty disappointed about Bill Murray not winning. I always thought he should've been at least nominated for Rushmore. But in general, I thought the 2004 Oscars were totally forgettable.

Thought Sean Penn's acceptance speech was as bad as his performance. He *is* an angry man and just had to play it onscreen. Johnny Depp showed much more range. Nothing about Penn's performance moved me (and I cry at just about anything). The accent attempt was also a big mistake. About 1 in 5 people you encounter in Boston actually have one. Tim Robbins deserved his Oscar and his speech was wonderful. I give him major high 5's for most improved. Generally, I can't stomach him or his wife.

Everything else as expected. Billy Crystal was wonderful.

Boring. Boring. Boring.

And puh-lease, someone please ask Peter Jackson to buy a shirt that fits - he can certainly afford it, and his "I don't care" attitude doesn't go far.

I thought the Oscars were pretty uneventful however I am very bothered by the fact that is is ok for Billy Crystal to be shown fully nude (other than for covering his penis with his hands)and get absolutely no slack for it, but Janet Jackson's breast which was shown for 2 seconds got the world in a tizzy and has led to the FCC cracking down on the entertainment industry and blaming those who were not even involved in the event-- (Howard Stern for example). The hypocrisy is this country is alarming and blatant. I mean what difference is seeing a covered breast than a covered penis?? Personally none of it offends me, but these FCC crusaders should go after Billy Crystal too if they truly believe in this cause-- it is a joke!

BORING!

"Peter Jackson, your movie Lord of the Rings: Return of the King has just swept 11 out of 11 categories at the Oscars! What are you going to do now!?"

"I'm going to comb my hair... and take a shower!"

I know that's his thing and style, but step it up a bit and comb the hair out of your eyes and straighten up your collar and tie. It's the Oscars, not last call at a bad wedding!
