Oscar night
Hollywood's biggest night has come and gone. What is your take on the show? Did anyone or any performances standout? Did you like Billy Crystal as the show's host? Did your favorites win? Did anyone win that you feel didn't deserve the award? Let Boston.com know what you thought.
Page 5 In a word. BORING! Paul, Methuen While Billy Crystal luminously displayed his creative genius, the Oscars, as a whole, were quite disappointing. Rather than reward the illuminating efforts of Coppola in her splendid Lost in Translation, the Academy rewarded the glut of The Lord of the Rings. J, Brighton had a great time at an annual Oscar party----13-14 people in attendance this year. we have a ballot which I make up, and I tied this year with a friend's wife---21 of 24 correct predictions (!), so it was down to the never before used tie-breaker: the time best picture is actually awarded---she picked 12:10, I went with 12:17---it was given at 12:05 so she won. not a problem though. as a 4-time winner, incl. the last 2 yrs., it was a good time nonetheless---great chinese buffet, laughs, Lord sweeping everything, but kind of wish there more surprises and there were none. billy crystal should be given a lifetime contract to host today!! as the song goes, "nobody does it better..." steve , middletown, RI Overall, I thought it was a pretty dull evening. It was nice to see how the stars decked themselves out. I also liked many of the comic bits that Billy Crystal did and the song sung by Jack Black and Will Ferrell. But with no surprise wins....it just wasn' t a very thrilling night! Barbara , Cambridge Booooo---ring. No surprise. Hollywood made what, 2 or 3 decent films last year? Why should we be expected to sit thru 4 hours of thank - you lists? kennedy, concord As usual, the show ran much too long, much of Billy Crystal's schlock could be cut out to save time and boredom. I fell asleep through some of it, as I am sure most of the audience did who were not in the spotlight. Tim Robbins deserved his win as did Sean Penn. I did not see Monster, but can see why Charlize Theron won. I plan to see it soon. Joan Rivers should hand over the pre-show to someone who has a personality. She looks like a freak with all the Botox and lifts she has had done to herself. I'm sure Melissa is following in Mom's footsteps, so take her out of the running as her successor. Sue, Milton Best part? The Tiger Woods tribute to Bill Murray in Caddyshack. Opps! That was a commercial! M, Somerville Charlize Theron looked smokin' hot!!!!!!! J., Hoboken Too many awards for Lord of the Rings! There were many other deserving movies. Anonymous, Arlington Charlize looked terrific and she definately deserved her award, but I think best choreography should've went to Mike Lydon for his work in Pirates of the Caribbean, what travesty. The rest of the show went pretty well. There were great outfits and the winners didnt get to political with thier speeches. Cant wait till next year!!! Shellon, Shelbyville MA
