I'd say "O" by Damien Rice would be my top pick for CD of the year. The highs and lows of his vocals hit you like a freight train. The album reminds me a little bit of Bob Dylan, with the only difference being that Rice can sing.

Andrew , Hudson, N.H.

Unfortunately, not too many great releases this past year. Here are a few though:

1) The Thrills: "So Much for the City"
2) Coldplay: "Live 2003". The sound quality is okay, but how can you not like Coldplay?
3) Steadman (I can't remember the name of the album)

AF, Framingham

Travis - 12 Memories
If you've never heard a waltz on a banjo before, check out "Love Will Come Through" -- quite possibly the most beautiful song I've ever heard

Melody, Boston

For Against - Coalesced Shins - Chutes too Narrow
Exploding Hearts - Guitar Romantic
Constantines - Shine a Light
Sufjan Stevens - Michigan
Dears - No Cities Left
White Stripes - Elephant
Ted Leo/Pharmacists - Hearts of Oak
Kills - Keep on Your Mean Side
Oranges Band - All Around

Brent , Brookline

I love Clay Aikens Measure of a man

Sandy, Boston

Dropkick Murphys - Blackout - awesome celtic/working class punk from a band that gets better with every album.

White Stripes - Elephant - You can listen to this album 5 times in a row and hear something different each time.

Street Dogs - Savin Hill - local working class punk with no frills and great, intelligible vocals/lyrics.

Janes Addiction - Strays - nowhere near their best but better than 90% of the other stuff that came out this year.

Keith , Pembroke
