Meet Ebenezer

Globe Staff / December 12, 2007

To get you in the mood for the holidays, the North End Branch of the Boston Public Library screens "A Christmas Carol," the 1951 film also known as "Scrooge." In other adaptations of the Charles Dickens tale, bitter Ebenezer Scrooge has been played by Albert Finney, Michael Caine, George C. Scott, and an animated duck (yes, that's Scrooge McDuck). This version stars legendary Scottish actor Alastair Sim (above), who is said to have set the standard for portrayals of the stingy character. No offense, Mr. McDuck. 6 p.m. Free. North End Branch Library, 25 Parmenter St., 617-227-8135. bpl.org
