Pretty as a Pixar

May 10, 2008

Tonight at the Coolidge, Newburyport's experimental orchestra Tiger Saw plays the soundtrack for "The Adventures of Prince Achmed," the oldest surviving animated feature film. The movie is based on "1001 Arabian Nights," so it's basically "Aladdin" without Robin Williams and all that singing. "Achmed" was made in 1926 by Lotte Reiniger, who used silhouette cutouts to make the picture. It's low-tech, but it just might be prettier than Pixar. Midnight. $10. Coolidge Corner Theatre, 290 Harvard St., Brookline. 617-734-2500. coolidge.org [M.G.]
