Brothers, here art thou

We thought this film series title read "A Gathering of Goons" at first. Woops. It's actually called "A Gathering of Coens," although knowing their fans, our first impression is probably close enough. This week the Brattle Theatre continues its tribute to those demented geniuses of filmmakers, the Coen brothers, with screenings of some of their most memorable absurdist comedies and genre deconstructions. Today catch "Raising Arizona" at 7 p.m. The Coen's first hit stars Nicolas Cage (above) and Holly Hunter as a couple who kidnap a baby before hilarious high jinks ensue. Also showing is their classic noir comedy "The Big Lebowski" at 5 and 9:30 p.m. This movie really ties the room together. Ties our life together too, actually, which is sort of sad. $9.50. Brattle Theatre, 40 Brattle St., Cambridge. 617-876-6837. brattlefilm.org
