While other independent movie theaters go horror for the holiday, the Harvard Film Archive will be all about family drama with a screening of "The Courtship of Eddie's Father," a film about a man whose best matchmaker is his son (played by a young Ron Howard). The movie, which spawned a television show, is the last installment of the Archive's series "Minnelli's Melodramas," which has featured works by director Vincente Minnelli, Liza's dad. 9 p.m. $8. Harvard Film Archive, 24 Quincy St., Cambridge, 617-495-4700. hcl.harvard.edu/hfa
