Economic hard times call for drastic measures, and in the 1920s, Jewish immigrant factory workers dealt with them by forming the United Workers Cooperative Colony. These Coops in the Bronx helped avoid foreclosures while offering affordable housing, racial integration, tenants’ and workers’ rights, and progressive social policies. The documentary “At Home in Utopia - Acting Together in an Economic Crisis’’ will screen in Brookline accompanied by a discussion about the need for collaborative action. Guests include Brandeis professor David Gil, former Coops residents featured in the documentary, and the film’s producers. Oct. 20 at 6 p.m. Free. Brookline Public Library, 361 Washington St., Brookline. 781-647-1102. www.filmmakerscollab.org/films/at-home-in-utopia
