CATS DON’T DANCE
(Starz on Comcast) A warm, funny animated adventure about Danny, a plucky song ’n’ dance cat from Kokomo, and how his boundless enthusiasm rekindles the stage bug in a troupe of down-and-out animal actors. (G; runs through Dec. 23)

MICHAEL SAUNDERS

MY LIFE AS A DOG
(Comcast Free Movies) A wonderfully rich-textured comedy of resilience, eccentric and original, depicting the growing pains of a Swedish boy sent to live in the country with his uncle after his mother falls ill. (PG-13; runs through Dec. 23)

MATEWAN
(Encore on Comcast) John Sayles’ affectingly heartfelt epic about the coming of the union label to the coalfields of West Virginia in 1920. Although it often deals in iconography, it’s a pleasure to see the committed cast capture a mythic tone while preserving an intimate scale. The kind of personalized, idealistic filmmaking represented here is a joy. (PG-13; runs through Dec. 24)
