THE TAKING OF PELHAM 123
(Comcast Movies: All Movies) This remake of a 1974 drama about a hijacked subway train and the dispatcher (Denzel Washington, pictured) who tries to stop it is good, solid suspense as long as it stays in the tunnel. Once up top, director Tony Scott turns it into just another summer action film. (R; runs through Feb. 3)

TY BURR

A THIN LINE BETWEEN LOVE AND HATE
(Encore on Comcast) A little too much Martin Lawrence (he’s producer, director, writer, and star) drags down this sometimes engaging romantic comedy that turns into a black “Fatal Attraction.’’ Lynn Whitfield is the one to watch as the updated Glenn Close - a sleek businesswoman who turns murderous when she learns Lawrence’s womanizing club manager has been two-timing her. (R; runs through Feb. 4)

ED
(Encore on Comcast) This baseball comedy for kids is so audaciously goofy you’ve just got to surrender to it. Mickey Mantle’s chimpanzee (!) is acquired by a minor league team as a mascot, then becomes the team’s star third baseman. Ed is winningly played by some actors in an animatronic chimp suit; Matt LeBlanc is likable as his reluctant roommate, a hotshot farm-boy pitcher. (PG; runs through Feb. 4)
