ME WITHOUT YOU
(Starz on Comcast) In which we trace the friendship of Holly (Michelle Williams) and Marina (Anna Friel) through 30 years of British pop culture, identity crises, and cute boys. Director Sandra Goldbacher knows how comforting and smothering a close friendship can be, but the film is finally too predictable - you can set your watch by the appearance of the obligatory Nick Drake cut on the soundtrack. Pictured (from left): Friel and Williams. (R; runs through Feb. 18) TY BURR

JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS
(Encore on Comcast) Mindless glitz-o-ramas don’t get much snazzier than this high-energy version of the girl band, furry little cat ears and all, from the pages of Archie comics. Led by Rachael Leigh Cook, they take on the Cruella De Vil of mall-rat rock to save the teen world from the scourge of brainwashing merchandisers. (PG-13; runs through April 1)

THE HURT LOCKER
(Comcast Movies: All Movies) This war film focuses on the work of an Army bomb squad and one particularly gifted soldier (Jeremy Renner), who seems to have no fear of roadside bombs. We see and feel how when he disarms a bomb, it’s almost no different from watching a conductor seduce an orchestra or a chef produce a meal. (R; runs through July 31) WESLEY MORRIS
