Desmond, not Mulligan
I don't know what kind of brain aphasia prompted me to write, in today's review of "Flawless," that the sax solo in the classic Dave Brubeck Quartet jazz tune "Take Five" is by Gerry Mulligan. It is of course by Paul Desmond, who wrote the song. Apologies to Brubeck/Desmond fans and to the entirety of jazz history.

This may be the nerdiest thing ever posted: in an interview of former Jeopardy! writer Carlo Panno conducted by former Jeopardy! champion Ken Jennings, Panno shares a story of Alex Trebek making the very same mistake:
"Once, we had an Audio Daily Double that involved the song “Take Five,” and Alex referred to the saxophonist as Gerry Mulligan. At the commercial break, I walked up to him and said 'That wasn’t Gerry Mulligan, it was Paul Desmond.'
Alex responded: 'Who cares?'
I looked him in the eye. 'You get the letters.' Then I turned on my heel and walked back to my front-row seat.
When we came back, he said 'One of my researchers – one of my former researchers – just told me that it was Paul Desmond.' "
Hopefully, I'm not the only person who finds that at least somewhat amusing. Full text of that portion of the interview can be found here: http://ken-jennings.com/blog/?p=777.
