What does that old midnight-movie reprobate John Waters give as a Christmas present? "Fruitcake," the "Hairspray" director's next movie, is gearing up for (I think) a Christmas 2009 release. It'll star Johnny Knoxville as the title character (look, it's better than "Pecker"), who per the Hollywood Reporter "runs away from home during the holidays after he and his parents are caught shoplifting meat, then meets up with a runaway girl raised by two gay men and searching for her birth mother." Posey plays the girl, and ain't that a match made in drive-in indie heaven? As for that meat-shoplifting bit, that's straight from "Pink Flamingos". Can a director rip himself off? Give Waters credit for the breakthrough. In any event, this sounds like the most heartwarming holiday film since "Bad Santa."
